Southern Virginia Missionary Article

This is kind of cool.
Two Sets of Students Serve Together in Missions
Hannah Benson Rodriguez · July 26, 2013
Avery Benesch and Scott Austin already had a lot in common last semester when they both received calls to serve in the Scotland/Ireland Mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
At the time last spring, both Arizona natives were roommates at Southern Virginia University and teammates on the school’s NCAA Division III baseball team.

This Weeks Photos From Peru

My Pensionista's Boys

End of School Program.  Each grade danced a Peruvian Dance

At a Service Project Elder Hackleman and his companion helped with.  End of the Year School Program

Mom and Son

Elder Hackleman,
I sure love Mondays, they are my favorite days because we get to hear from you:)  What's new?

The boys and I have been going to the zoo and watching the IMax movies.  We didn't realize they were free with our membership.  So far we have seen Butterflies, Dinosaurs, and Animals in Africa.  It's a great way to have a little fun even when it is really hot outside.  Luckily this week is supposed to be a lot cooler today.  Right now it is even raining a little.  Love it!

Jeremy and his family might be coming this weekend for a visit.  Jeremy might be coming on business so his family will come along with him.   That would be so fun, so I hope his trip doesn't get cancelled.  Right now we have a 50/50 chance of them coming.

Yesterday we had the elders over for dinner.  We sure have a good pair right now.

Love,
Mom

Hey momma! I thought you didnt renew the zoo membership! That´s awesome though. It is pretty cold here right now. I don’t know what the temperature comparison is because they use Celsius here but all I know is I wear a sweater every day, I use two thick blankets, a long sleeved shirt and long sweats when I sleep, and I sweat 1 time every week. Only when we play basketball or futbol on pdays haha. These pictures are from a service project my companion and I did for our pensionista. Her kids just had thier last day of school before a 2 week break and their school did this big shindig where every grade danced a Peruvian dance. It was awesome. The two little guys in the first picture are my pensionista´s boys. Rodrigo is 9 years old and Nicholas is 2 years old. Nico knows more words in english than in spanish. It´s awesome haha When I point to what it is, he can say shirt, jacket, tie, plaque, pants, socks, and shoes. All the missionary attire! He doesn´t know how to say any of that in spanish haha. It´s hilarious. Saturday, we got to watch the broadcast by elder christofferson for 100 stake in peru. They videoed it so that everyone in peru who couldnt make it, could see it. It was so cool! My companion told me that he speaks absolutely perfect spanish. His accent and grammar is perfect. He said that he speaks better than a latino because of his grammar and lack of slaying words. That´s pretty awesome. I hope everything is going well there and you all are having a great summer! I hope They can figure out something for Seth´s feet. He´s going to need those to win state this year! Haha Love you mom!

From dad and son

Elder Hackleman,

How was your week?? Have you been staying healthy? What is your favorite food? Sorry, I'm always full of so many questions! :) I can tell you are really enjoying serving the Lord by your smiles in your pictures. We are all doing great. Everyone is healthy. We are taking Seth to a foot doctor on Tuesday. His feet are really bothering him. I think he injured them back in Sidney and he learned to walk on the sides of them to ease the pain. Now when he tries to walk normal, they hurt. Anyway, I'll let you know what we find out. We had the Elders over for dinner tonight. They are really good young men. Both from Bountiful Utah.

Work is going really well. We bought a smaller "brain game" company last month. It's called MIndWare and it's located in Minneapolis, MN. It won't mean much for me except that it will help Oriental Trading Company grow more profitable.

The Utes are picked to finish 5th in Pac 12 South. That's a good place to start. That way we can surprise everyone!!! :)

So today's spanish lesson comes from today's Sacrament Meeting. Pablo Almeida is the First Counselor in the Elder's Quorum Presidency was speaking and he has a spanish accent. He told everyone this...

Repeat after me:

Esto no es un impedimento de discurso, él es un acento.

In English it means:

This is not a speech impediment, it's an accent.

It was really funny!

Anyway, take care son! Can't wait to hear from you!!!

¡Ámele hijo!

Papá

Hey Dad! Good to hear from ya! Yeah I´m having a blast. My favorite food Lomo Saltado. It´s soooo good. It´s Potatoes, chicken, onions, tomatoes, and rice with some sort of sauce on top. Dad, you seriously wouldn´t even believe how much I eat and like potatoes now. I´m seriously not even the same person haha. I have two others. Papa La Huancina and Papa Rellena. Papa La Huancina is potatoes with this sauce on it that I don´t know how to explain what it tastes like but it rocks. and Papa Rellena is a whole potato that they put beef and some seasoning inside of it and then fry the whole think on the outside. I can buy one for 1 sole on the street.  It´s an awesome snack. I totally skipped the sickness from food and water here so it’s all good to eat whatever. haha (Knock on wood). I taught a ward activity this week in spanish and got compliments by everyone on how well I can speak now. Love you!
